Followers of Faith Team Newsletter
June 12, 2009
Followers of Faith has been keeping very busy over the past month. With help from the entire congregation we had a very successful garage sale raising over $2000.00. We would like to thank everyone who donated items to the garage sale, priced items, set up and worked the day of the garage sale. A special thanks to Jan Birr and Maryann Zerbe. They spent MANY hours at the church preparing for the sale. The money which we raised at the garage sale will be used in many different ways. 1. a portion will be used to help members of our congregation. 2. a portion will be saved for expenses for upcoming events. 3. we will be watching the budget carefully and donate as needed.
Wishing Well
To date the wishing well has contributed $124.53 and several pieces of pocket fuzz J to the Followers of Faith account. What a great way to make a little go a long way! THANKS!
Cookbook
The cookbook is well under way. We began typing recipes in May and hope to have them all typed by the end of June. Typists – Please return your typed recipes to Angi we have many more to hand out! On June 8 the cookbook team met and made several decisions regarding the book itself. I don’t want to give away all the details but it’s going to be a GREAT cookbook. We still have several recipes without owners. Please see Angi during fellowship time on Sunday to make sure these recipes aren’t yours. During the month of July we will be scheduling a proof reading party. This party will be scheduled during the day at the church. Several of you have already expressed interest in helping with this task if anyone else is interested please see Maryann Zerbe. Starting in late August/early September we will be taking your orders for cookbooks this will help us determine how many to purchase. Start thinking about your Christmas lists now!
Avon
Thank you to everyone taking advantage of this generous gift from Jenny. Jenny has donated a total of $15.13 to the Followers of Faith account. The new Avon books are in your classrooms, take a look and see what is in it for you!
Fish Fry JULY 18
Time is flying and we have so much to do for this event. We have had a couple of meetings to organize this event. This event is going to take support from everyone in the congregation to be a success.
Tickets – Maryann Zerbe will be producing the tickets. Our goal is to pre-sale 500 tickets. We will be passing out tickets very soon. Please sell tickets to everyone you know. Everyone loves a fish fry and they shouldn’t be hard to sell.
Food – Sharon Houser is taking charge of the kitchen activities. Sharon will be needing volunteers to work on Thursday July 16 in the evening to help prepare the cole slaw. Please see Sharon if you would like to volunteer. Scott Harney is looking for volunteers to bread fish the day of the event starting at 1:00. If you are interested see Scott. We are asking for donations of loaves of bread and potato chips from the congregation. We will begin taking your donations of chips July 1 st. Donations for loaves of bread will be taken July11.
Paper Products – We are currently researching pricing on these items. John Zerbe and Sharon Houser have been looking for the best prices for plates, placemats, silverware, and cups.
Advertising – Angi has ordered 100 yard signs to be placed throughout Elkhart county advertising the fish fry. We will be asking members of the congregation located in high traffic areas to place signs in their yards. We would like to make 2 large plywood signs to be placed at the corner of CR26 / SR19 and CR26/US33. If you have the materials or time to make these signs please let Angi know. We will be placing the big sign at the corner of CR113/CR26 approximately 3 weeks prior to the fish fry. If you would like to help with the movement of this sign please see Scott Harney. We will be giving tickets to several area radio stations to give away for the event. We will also be advertising in the following local papers: The Truth, The Paper, Goshen News, Middlebury Independent, and Nappanee Paper. Angi will also be creating flyers to send to local churches, VFW, grocery stores, etc… We will be asking members of the congregation to also pass these flyers out.
Electrical – We have ran into a slight problem with the electrical outlets in the kitchen. Dan’s fish Fry needs 3-220volt outlets and we have none. John Zerbe met with Ron Bailey and we will need to make temporary outlets for the event costing us approx. $200.00. This is definitely a cost we were not expecting but have great expectations for this event and will have these temporary outlets made.
Followers of Faith is very excited about this event if you are willing to donate your time in helping this event become a success please see one of the following members:
Sharon Houser, Lois Losee, Scott Harney
Lodema Hoke, Doris Walters, Maryann Zerbe
David Hoke, John Zerbe, Angi Marcin
Cookie/Candy Walk
Don’t forget about this great event coming up on December 12. We will be in need of 850 dozen cookies for this event. Start baking your cookies now and freezing them, we’ll need every cookie we can get! Have you scheduled your Sunday School party to bake cookies or candy. What a great way to support the church. We all know how great the youth’s candy is how good is your classes candy or cookies?
I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith; so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.
- Philemon 1:6
