February 8, 1914 - April 3, 2006
Ray B. Bloom, 92, of Elkhart, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday (April 3, 2006) at AmeriCare Living Center. He was born February 8, 1914, in Kelley, Kansas, to Otis and Addie (Debus) Bloom. He married Lottie Whirledge on January 19, 1948, in Elkhart. She died October 11, 1950. He married Geneva Secor on November 3, 1951, in Osceola. She died May 23, 1998. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Doris I. Barfell of Elkhart and Eleanor Harrington of Wakarusa. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carroll and DeWayne Bloom, and one sister, Minnie Murray.
Viewing was at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, 403 W. Franklin St., Elkhart, where funeral services were held at 1 p.m. the next day. David Bibbee, pastor of Creekside Church of the Brethren, officiated. Burial was in Rice Cemetery.
Mr. Bloom retired in 1975 after 35 years of service at Penn Central Railroad, where he was yard conductor. He graduated from Oneida (Kan.) High School, was active in bowling and golfing leagues and enjoyed baseball, horseshoe pitching and gardening. Mr. Bloom was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a member of Creekside Church of the Brethren (formerly Elkhart City Church of the Brethren), Eagles 395, VFW Post 88, National Civilian Conservation Association, Penn Central Pensioners and the DAV.
