Henry F. Schmucker, 82, of Elkhart, died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at his home.
He was born in Milford, Indiana, to Jacob D. and Lydia (Byler) Schmucker. On January 27, 1957, in Milford, he married Mary Ellen Sims.
Mary survives along with two sons, Leonard F. Schmucker of Elkhart and Terry (Pamela) Schmucker of Nappanee. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Michael (Crystal) Schmucker of Goshen, Christopher Schmucker of Elkhart, Jeremy Schmucker of Goshen and Aaron (Crystal) Schmucker of Goshen; one great-granddaughter, Marissa Schmucker; and former daughter-in-law Karen Schmucker of Elkhart.
Preceding him in death were his mother and father; one sister, Verna Clemens; and brother Johnny Schmucker.
Henry graduated in 1950 from Milford High School. In 1958, he graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948. He was a member of Creekside Church of the Brethren, Friendly Pioneers, AARP, TRIAD, Lions Club, Jaycees and United Commercial Travelers, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Henry worked for Bubb Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka and for Williams and Burns Funeral Home in Gary as a funeral director. From 1958 to 1976, he was a sales representative for Shelby Book Sales in Shelby, Ohio.
Visitation was from 1 to 4 p.m. at Creekside Church followed by the funeral service at 4 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2010. Pastor Janet Shaver officiated the service. Military rites were rendered after the service by the Elkhart DAV Chapter 19. Cremation took place.
