Jim was a long-time member of Creekside Church of the Brethren (formerly Elkhart City) and had sung in the choir, served as a deacon, usher and youth counselor. He was a fan of the Cubs, Bears, IU and ND and enjoyed playing softball, basketball and golf. He also enjoyed music.
