Week 2
Who Am I?
|
If someone asked
you who you are, what would you say? You would probably tell them
your name. If they wanted to know more about you, they might ask
who your parents or grandparents are. Who our family is gives us
clues about who we are.
The Bible says
that we are God's children. Does that mean God is our father or
mother? One of the ways we understand God is to look at the people
we know and love. The people we know and love the best are probably
our parents or grandparents. Think of the person who loves you the
best: God loves you at least as much as that.
God can be like
a person, but God is different than any person-God can be anywhere
and see anything, and God loves everyone. We don't have to imagine
God as a person at all: think of the most beautiful thing you can:
God is at least as beautiful as that. Think of the brightest light
you can: God shines at least as bright as that.
Being God's
child is a wonderful gift. It means we belong to God's family and
God loves us and we can love God back. But we can also find God
in nature, and music, and colors, and everywhere we see something
beautiful and good. God isn't part of just one family, God is part
of the whole world.
Who are your
favorite people? How is God like them?
What are the things that are most important to you? How is God like
them?
While you are thinking about God, get a piece of paper and some
crayons or markers and draw a picture that shows what God is like.
Give it to one of your favorite people, and tell him or her how
it reminds you of God.
